Natural disaster response

The fire disaster that happened in Kaazi Malanga landing site in Bufumira Sub County. The disaster affected 89 households with a total population of 347 people. The Red Cross Kalangala Branch with support from the Disaster Management Directorate managed to distribute relief items to the affected community after carrying out a successful assessment. The relief was distributed by the Branch Manager, Chairperson local council five and the area councilors together with the Branch Red Cross volunteers.

School visit

Our volunteers visited Victoria Nursery School in Kalangala town and assisted with music and art activities. The main objective was introduction some basic English vocabulary.
The school provides education for around 50 children in the age of 4-6 years.
Volunteers provided the school with some scholastic materials such as color pencils and drawing cards, donated by children from one of the Polish primary school.

Field visit

Our volunteers took part in the field visit to Lulamba and Kachanga islands with ART Clinic team. It was a regular outreach activity to provide local community with a treatment for HIV affected and educational support for the fishing community

Fire disaster in Nakatiba landing site

The fire disaster that happened in Nakatiba landing site in Bujumba Sub County. The disaster affected 97 households with a total population of 435 people. This kind of disaster has happened in on this landing site twice in the same year. The Red Cross Kalangala Branch with support from the Disaster Management Directorate managed to distribute relief items to the affected community after carrying out a successful assessment. One woman named Senga died in the fire. The relief was distributed by the Branch Manager, Chairperson, local council, five MP for Bujumba constituency, woman MP Kalangala District, Resident District Commissioner Kalangala, Board Chairman for Kalangala Branch and the area councilors together with the Branch Red Cross volunteers.

Volunteers introduction

From March 2014 Kalangala Red Cross Branch hosts two professional volunteers from Poland.
Ewa Jodko – pedagogue and counseller by profession, with diverse and multidisciplinary experience both with local and international organizations.


Wojciech Niewinski - project coordinator, specialist in marketing and events’ management and photographer


They colaborate with us in the following activities:
Development of Red Cross Kalangala Branch dissemination through social media
Youth links’ trainings
In-school youth trainings in planning and leadership skills
Support local partners in field visits and dissemination of Red Cross values
Individual counselling to persons affected by crisis including school youth counselling
Sport activities and keep mind busy workshops
Trainings of effective time and money management skills
